Enneagram personality typing is widely used in the workplace to determine the characteristics of individuals. Employees often use the results to decide whether a particular person will settle into their work culture.
However, many individuals also use the Enneagram to aid them in personal growth, with problem areas in their relationships, or even to establish the viability of a potential romantic connection.
In Enneagram Type 2 compatibility with Type 7, romance has the potential to flourish. This is especially true when using the Enneagram the way it was intended—to aid in development, personally, and in a relationship.
This article aims to provide information about Enneagram Type 2 compatibility with Type 7. It discusses the benefits, possible difficulties, and how a couple may work together to improve their relationship.
Type 2 Compatibility With Type 7
The score of Enneagram Type 2 compatibility with Type 7, shown below, is based on a relationship of a core Type of Two with a core Type of Seven. When taking wings into account, as well as whether the individual is in a phase of growth (integration) or stress (disintegration), the relationship may show a different result. Further micro-variances in personality may also affect the result.
The percentage for Enneagram Type 2 compatibility with Type 7 is 46%. However, some studies have determined that men and women may choose partners differently. A Walden university dissertation established that, in addition, men and women of one type may find compatibility with differing personalities. Results for this study were gathered from 324 couples and were based on EnneaDyads, as well as whether individuals had secure or insecure attachment styles.
Although the study gathered that EnneaDyads may not have much impact on compatibility, it, and others, believe that there may be some correlation—especially when attachment styles are insecure or unmatched (one secure and one insecure partner). Some believe that only Allied and Integrative EnneaDyads have any effect, while others think that potential lies in the following category order:
- Woman is 2 and man is 1/Man is 2 and woman is 3
- Woman is 7 and man is 6/Man is 7 and woman is 8
- Woman is 2 and man is 4/Man is 2 and woman is 8
- Woman is 7 and man is 5/Man is 7 and woman is 1
- Woman is 2 and man is 8/Man is 2 and woman is 4
- Woman is 7 and man is 1/Man is 7 and woman is 5
- Woman and man are both 2
- Woman and man are both 7
- Woman is 2 and man is 3/Man is 2 and woman is 1
- Woman is 7 and man is 8/Man is 7 and woman is 6
- Either the man or woman is 2 and their partner is 5,6,7, or 9
- Either the man or woman is 7 and their partner is 2,3,4, or 9
Anxiety and Avoidance in Attachment Styles
The most successful relationships are achieved when both parties show secure attachment styles, when one partner has a secure attachment style, or when a very strong wing has a secure attachment style.
Earned secure attachments may also be acquired within relationships, especially during personal growth phases.
When both partners show insecure attachment styles, the outcome is often less than favorable. In Enneagram Type 2 compatibility with Type 7, Twos exhibit high anxiety and low avoidance, while Sevens show low anxiety and high avoidance. These are both insecure attachment styles.
Wings, Growth, and Stress
Two wings are One and Three—both secure attachment styles—and Seven wings are Six and Eight—both insecure attachment styles. This relationship may flourish if the Two partner in Enneagram Type 2 compatibility with Type 7, has a strong wing.
With changes during growth and stress (integration and disintegration), the emerging personalities may further alter the relationship potential.
- Twos integrate to Four—insecure
- Sevens integrate to Five—insecure
- Twos disintegrate to Eight—insecure
- Sevens disintegrate to One—secure
What Each Type Brings to the Relationship
Each Enneagram Type contributes unique positive and negative aspects in Enneagram Type 2 compatibility with Type 7, including those of their wings.
Enneagram Type 2: The Helper
Enneagram Type Twos devote themselves to discovering the needs of their partners. They then set out to fulfill these desires. However, Twos’ yearning for acknowledgment and appreciation doesn’t fall to the wayside, they’re just great at concealing it—mostly to avoid rejection and conflict.
Enneagram Type 7: The Enthusiast
Due to their intense need to experience the new and exciting, they have high energy levels. They see the world as confining and desire a fun or adventurous escape. They may avoid commitments. However, their quick and accurate organization skills come with charming and inspiring personalities.

Enneagram Type 2w1, Type 2w3, Type 7w6, and Type 7w8
Moral and just, they hunt for the wrongs of the world, focusing on both themselves and others. However, they’re usually loyal and will probably put effort into the relationship.
Ones’ attachment style: secure.
Driven to achieve, these usually well-groomed types like the world around them to praise them for their successes. With their confidence and optimism, they’re able to inspire others.
Threes’ attachment style: secure.
Insecurity and uncertainty drive Sixes. They’re loyal, friendly, and engaging, but need reassurance from others. Because they anticipate the worst, they’re great in emergencies.
Sixs’ attachment style: insecure.
These powerful types hide their vulnerabilities beneath an iron cloak. They’re decisive, dominating, and combative, but also protective and encouraging.
Eights’ attachment style: insecure.
Positives of This Pairing
Twos and Sevens share the enjoyment of engaging with friends and extended family. And people will enjoy socializing with the warm and kind Twos and the energetic, optimistic Sevens.
Both Twos and Sevens are less temperamental and nervous than many other types. They’re averse to conflict and confrontation—which detracts from their need to remain constantly buoyant. Still, between the two, Sevens are significantly more moody and sometimes erratic, especially during tough and stressful times.
Sevens, in growth, may develop the patience they need to encourage Twos to become more independent, and to see the positive in changes.
Twos, in growth, may encourage Sevens to show their vulnerability and share their feelings. This could help Sevens to see that not all good things in life need to be accompanied by a level of excitement.
Sevens struggle to restrain their impulses, and this may lead to them escaping the bounds of a relationship in pursuit of adventure or excitement. This could cause Twos to grow needier of their attention and affection. In turn, Sevens may see this as manipulative and may pull away from what they consider to be shackles.
Since Sevens hunger for self-gratification and Twos enjoy pleasing, there may be a lot of taking and not much reciprocal giving. This may result in Twos becoming resentful. Also, Twos are generous and enjoy helping others in their community. Warm and trusting Twos may see their Seven partners as selfish since they have no desire to aid.
Another point of conflict may arise because Sevens are unlikely to share Twos’ respect for and appreciation of other cultures’ customs and ideals.
If Twos give Sevens the space to explore, Sevens may be more inclined to share their emotions and engage with their Two partners.
Sevens could show Twos appreciation while encouraging them to take time for themselves. Twos may, in turn, follow Sevens on one of their creative adventures.
Actively growing and developing within their Enneagram Types will benefit this couple. In this way, they may avoid becoming negative or agitated with each other.
